We're Hiring: An Engineering Team Leader (Waikato)

Caliber Design is growing, and we’re looking for an Engineering Team Leader to help us lead from the front. This is a unique opportunity to combine technical delivery with people leadership, working with a team of talented engineers across exciting and diverse projects.
About the Role
As a Team Leader, you’ll spend 80 percent of your time delivering high quality engineering solutions for our clients, and the remaining time mentoring and supporting your team. You’ll play a key role in project oversight, team development, and driving continuous improvement — all while upholding Caliber’s commitment to excellence and innovation.
We’re looking for a Team Leader who can drive our Waikato team forward. You’ll bring a diverse range of experience and the ability to think from first principles to support engineers working across a broad spectrum of industries and project types. We don’t expect you to be an expert in every domain, but strong engineering judgment, curiosity, and the ability to lead, mentor, and inspire others are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Mentor and support engineers in professional growth and technical delivery
- Ensure team engagement with Caliber values, culture, and internal processes
- Sign off project start-up and close-out procedures
- Maintain clear communication with clients and management
- Conduct performance reviews, check-ins, and development planning
- Support business development and recruitment efforts
- Provide hands-on technical guidance and problem-solving to our clients
You’ll Bring
- You may be looking for your next step up into a leadership role, or you may already have team leadership experience.
- A minimum of a bachelor’s level degree in mechanical engineering
- A minimum of 6 years, commercial experience in mechanical design
- Proficient in CAD packages, particularly SolidWorks and Inventor
- Strong communication skills in English
- A passion for engineering excellence and leadership
- Strong communication skills and empathy-driven mentorship
- Proven experience delivering technical engineering projects
- A collaborative, solutions-focused mindset
- The ability to motivate, develop, and inspire others
