THE ROLE
This is a hands-on electrical design role focused on producing robust, buildable designs for industrial installations.
You will be embedded within client teams, typically on 3–6-month projects, where you will take ownership of electrical schematics and design documentation, ensuring solutions are practical, compliant, and ready for installation.
This role suits an engineer who enjoys working independently, applies strong fundamentals, and has the confidence to make sound engineering decisions.
Your work will include:
Producing electrical schematics and detailed design drawings using EPLAN, AutoCAD, or similar
Designing electrical systems and selecting equipment, including cables, motors, control panels, transformers, relays, contactors, and power supplies
Performing electrical calculations to validate designs and ensure correct specification
Applying electrical standards and regulations to deliver safe and compliant designs
Reviewing and interpreting existing schematics and control systems
Assessing existing plant and equipment to inform upgrades and new designs
Liaising with OEMs, installers, and stakeholders to ensure designs are practical and understood
Supporting installation with clear technical input where required
Producing clear documentation, including manuals, operating procedures, and maintenance guides
ABOUT YOU
You are an experienced electrical design engineer who takes ownership of your work and delivers practical, well-considered solutions.
You are comfortable working independently, confident in your technical decisions, and able to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You will bring:
A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar
6+ years’ experience in electrical design for industrial systems
Strong schematic design and CAD capability using EPLAN, AutoCAD, or similar
Solid understanding of electrical standards and compliance requirements
Experience selecting and specifying industrial electrical equipment
Strong electrical fundamentals and calculation capability
Confidence interpreting schematics and working with control systems
Experience working around industrial equipment and existing installations
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to pass NZ Police Security Clearance
Desirable:
Experience with machine safety or functional safety
Electrical registration or practical electrical experience
