Regional Manager - Christchurch
Lead Caliber Design’s Christchurch region, guiding a team of 30+ engineers while building strong client partnerships and driving sustainable growth.
We usually respond within a day
Caliber Design is an engineering consultancy, we support clients across the aerospace, medical, food processing, marine and manufacturing industries. Our business model is to embed engineers on secondment within clients’ teams to help them scale and deliver their projects.
We believe high-value manufacturing is what will grow New Zealand's economy, and we have built long-standing relationships with more than 300 clients in this space. Our purpose is to enable these companies to punch above their weight on the world stage, and our vision is to become the world’s most versatile and sought-after engineering team.
We are growing 20 to 30% per year, with new service lines (we launched an automation and controls division this year), new industries, and clients beyond New Zealand. We have a very motivated management team, excited about the growth potential over the next five to ten years, and that's why we need this role.
Lead our people. Build client partnerships. Grow the region.
Bring your engineering knowledge, leadership skills and commercial drive to a role where you can make a direct impact on our people and our business.
Caliber Design is looking for a Regional Manager in Christchurch to lead our local team of 30+ engineers, strengthen client relationships and drive sustainable growth.
The role
Reporting to the CEO, you will lead the Christchurch region and take responsibility for its people, client relationships and financial performance.
You will work closely with Team Leads to support and develop our engineers, while building a pipeline of client opportunities that keeps the team productively engaged. You will stay connected to what’s happening on client sites and balance day-to-day priorities with longer-term regional planning.
As a member of our Senior Leadership Team, you will collaborate with the CEO and other Senior Managers to influence the direction of the wider business.
What you will bring
You understand engineering environments and enjoy working with people. You can build trust with an engineer on a client site, discuss business needs with a senior decision-maker and turn those conversations into action.
We are looking for:
A background in mechanical engineering or a related technical discipline.
Commercial acumen and an entrepreneurial mindset.
Experience in business development, B2B sales or growing engineering client accounts.
The ability to lead, coach and develop people.
An organised, practical approach to balancing people, client and business priorities.
You may already lead an engineering team or business unit or be ready to step up from a technical leadership role with strong client and commercial responsibilities. Equally, you may have started your own business previously and be ready for your next opportunity.
What you will do
Lead and develop our people: Coach Team Leads, support engineers’ development and oversee recruitment, onboarding and performance reviews.
Grow the business: Develop existing accounts, identify new clients and turn opportunities into successful secondments.
Build lasting client relationships: Understand client needs, maintain regular site contact and act on feedback.
Deliver regional results: Own the regional plan and manage revenue, profitability, productivity and resourcing.
Maintain high standards: Champion Caliber’s values, engineering quality, continuous improvement and health and safety.
What’s in it for you?
Competitive remuneration, quarterly KPI-based bonuses and an uncapped sales commission structure.
A fully maintained company vehicle with personal use.
Professional development and leadership training.
Autonomy and flexibility, with the support of an experienced leadership team.
Medical, life and disability insurance after six months.
A supportive, professional and fun company culture.
A seat on the Senior Leadership Team and the opportunity to shape Caliber’s future.
